The government is being advised to compromise and begin to give the mines listening hears.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) wants government to understand the challenges that the mines are going through and assess how they can be approached and addressed.

YALI has however suggested that while government gives such attention to the mines there is also need to be realistic about the profits mines have been making from Zambia’s minerals.

YALI governance advisor Isaac Mwanza states that his organization is of the view that for the fact mines are still making profits from the country’s minerals, dialogue should not only deal with the threats that mines are making.

Mr. Mwanza has told Qfm News in an interview that YALI also holds the view that as the government deals with issues of the Mines, diversification of Zambia’s economy must also start taking root.

He notes that Zambia cannot continue depending on copper to grow its economy with the current fluctuating global prices.

Mr. Mwanza says there is need for the country to focus more on using Agriculture as an alternative driver of Zambia’s economic growth.
