ZCTU defends Mukuka over sexual harassment allegations

The Zambia Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) has disassociated its Secretary General Cosmas Mukuka from allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) Finance and Business Deputy General Secretary Beatrice Mwila.

ZCTU Public Relations and Internal Affairs Director Martin Chembe, says the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Mr. Mukuka who is also BETUZ president are far from the truth.

Mr. Chembe has disclosed to Qfm News in a statement that Mr. Mukuka has confirmed to him that at no point did he make any sexual advances to Ms. Mwila as she has alleged.

He says this is especially that despite her being BETUZ Finance and Business Deputy General Secretary Mr. Mukuka’s working relationship with her is not direct as she does not report to him.

Mr. Chembe states that this is besides the fact that although Mr. Mukuka is the BETUZ president he does not operate from the BETUZ offices where the alleged sexual harassment is said to have happened.

He notes Mr. Mukuka has however indicated that he understands that the issue relating to Ms. Mwila could only be an administrative matter which he says he will deal with when he returns from abroad.
