Tayali tips govt on mealie meal prices

Government has been urged not to allow any further increase in the price of mealie meal by millers.

The Zambian Voice says government should be wary of the latest indications by Millers to further increase the price of the country’s stable food.

Executive Director Chilufya Tayali says considering that the price of mealie meal usually goes up during this period, government should do everything possible to ensure that the price does not go up between now and next year.

Mr. Tayali has told Qfm News that government should in this case consider flooding the market with maize from the Food Reserve Agency to ease the demand which is causing the increase in the price of mealie meal.

He adds that government also has the option of subsidizing maize.
