The ruling Patriotic Front says it is unfortunate that some international media organizations are misinterpreting President Lungu’s call for tomorrow’s national day of prayer and fasting.

PF Media Committee Vice Chairman Sunday Chanda says Mathew Hill, the Zambia Correspondent for the New York based Bloomberg News, has sent out a misleading interpretation of the National Day for Prayers and Reconciliation.

Mr. Chanda explains that in his report, Mr. Hill claims President Lungu has called for prayers seeking divine intervention in the volatile Kwacha.

Mr. Chanda has informed Mr. Hill that Zambia’s struggle for Independence was anchored by a relationship between God and the country.

He furthermore explains that the freedom fighters such as Zambia’s founding President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and his generation of gallant citizens looked to God, prayed and fasted and this has been carried down to all subsequent Presidents.

He says Zambians will recall how Dr. Kaunda usually called National Days of Prayer for peace and unity, under the One Zambia One Nation banner.

Mr. Chanda says Mr. Hill would be wise to know that part of the reason Zambia had a bloodless transition from one party rule to multiparty democracy in 1991 was because the church had a pivotal role to bring the ruling party UNIP and main opposition MMD leaders together to pray and reconcile.

He states that further, President Chiluba declared Zambia a Christian Nation and this is enshrined in the Zambian Constitution.

He says the PF is not like other political parties such as UPND which fail to recognize the importance of Prayer and Reconciliation in the life of the Nation.

The PF Media Committee Vice Chairman furthermore states that the call by President Lungu for National Prayers on the 18th October 2015 has been heeded to by all the Church mother bodies, traditional leaders and majority of Zambians.
