The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested 25 people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

And the commission in Central Province has arrested a truck driver in Kapiri Mposhi for trafficking in Miraa.

Omari Banda, 36, a truck driver of Kapiri Mposhi District has been arrested for trafficking in 160 bundles of Miraa weighing 42kg.

And those arrested countrywide include James Bwalya, 43, a Driver of Serenje District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 24.1kg; Marson Kalunga, 22, also of Serenje District for trafficking 18.4kg of cannabis, and Martin Simpokolwe, 36, a peasant farmer of Chitimbwa village in Mpulungu District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 15.4kg.

And in Western Province, the Commission has arrested Oscar Lufwiso, 39, a peasant farmer of katete area in Sioma District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 34.6kg of fresh plants

All suspects will appear in court soon.
