Govt awards civil servants salary increaments

Government has awarded Civil Servants salary increments ranging from between 9 to 29 percent.

According to Civil Servant and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) President David Chiyobe, the increment is with effect from January 2016 to December 2016.

Mr Chiyobe, disclosed this in Lusaka today during the signing ceremony of the collective agreement between the Union and the Public Service Management Division (PSMD).

Mr Chiyobe however admitted that the agreement was not the best one but was only signed in the best interest of the workers and the nation, the Union signed the collective agreement in a win-win situation.

He stated that the Union considered the fact that government has a lot of pressing national developmental projects that require resources.

Meanwhile, Zambia Union of Nurses (MZU) President Tom Yungana, said government and the Union, have reached an agreement where nurses fired under late President Michael Sata will have their benefits and pensions restored.

And PSMD Permanent Secretary Dr Velepi Mtonga commended the CSAWUZ for signing the collective agreement with government.

Dr Mtonga said, government will continue to motivate Civil Servant and other public service workers now and in future as they play an important role in service delivery of the country.

In 2013, government imposed a two year recruitment and wage freeze for civil servants.
