YALI happy with K727.9 allocated to constitution making

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is happy with the allocation of K727.9 million towards the 2016 tripartite elections and the Constitution making process.

YALI Governance Advisor, Isaac Mwanza says with the allocation of funds towards the referendum in the 2016 Budget, he expects President Edgar Lungu to announce Commissioners for the Referendum Commission so they can quickly begin to prepare the ground for holding the Referendum alongside the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Mwanza says President Lungu should appreciate that holding the referendum alongside the 2016 general elections will have serious challenges if preparations do not commence in earnest.
He has also called on Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula to update the nation on arrangements that have been made to table the constitution Bill.
Mr Mwanza notes that the Constitution Amendment Bill presents a litmus test to both Patriotic Front and opposition MPs on whether the governors are determined to improve Zambia’s governance by providing for clauses which Zambians have been yearning for.
