Grand Coalition to participate in day of national prayer

The Grand Coalition on the Campaign for the People Driven Constitution has formally confirmed its participation in the day of national prayer and fasting scheduled for the 18th this month.

Grand Coalition Vice Chairperson Sara Longwe has disclosed that her Coalition’s participation in the day of national prayer is but with a different agenda.

Ms. Longwe says members of her Coalition will be praying for a people driven constitution under the theme dubbed ‘new constitution better lives for all’.

Speaking during a media briefing held in Lusaka today, Ms. Longwe explained that her Coalition chose to participate in the day of national prayer with this agenda because it believes that most of the challenges that the country is going through hinge on a weak republican constitution.

Ms. Longwe states that her Coalition thinks that the current constitution does not provide for an effective participatory and inclusive governance system.

She notes this is why her Coalition believes that the country is now faced with an economic crisis coupled with escalated unemployment levels and job losses.

Speaking at the same media briefing Professor in Human Rights Law Commissioner at University of Pretoria, Michelo Hansungule observed that it is still possible for Zambia to hold constitution referendum before the 2016 general elections.
