Zambia’s foreign stars arrive for Egypt friendly

All but two foreign-based call-ups have joined Zambia’s camp ahead of this weekend’s away friendly against Egypt while George Lwandamina has axed the Power Dynamos quartet after they failed to report for training in Lusaka.

Russian-based midfielder Chisamba Lungu of FC Ural, who joined the team at Tuesday training, was joined on Wednesday in Lusaka by four other players.

The South African-based duo of Mpumalanga Black Aces striker Collins Mbesuma and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene have both arrived in Lusaka together with defender Stopilla Sunzu of French club Lille.

TP Mazembe midfielder Nathan Sinkala has joined but his club mate and Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba was missing from Wednesday training.

Armenian-based midfielder Lubambo Musonda of Gandzasar FC, who recently recovered from an arm injury, will join the team in Dubai where the friendly will be played on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Lwandamina has dropped defender Christopher Munthali, midfielder’s Benson Sakala, Kennedy Mudenda and Larry Bwalya.

This is after third-placed Power refused to release them for the first two days of training camp ahead of their crucial league clash away to leaders Zesco on Wednesday that will decide the visitors interest in the 2015 title.

“The Power players have been excused from the friendly. They are still part of the team and will be considered for the Chan (African Championships) if their club agrees,” Lwandamina said.
