EIZ urges issuance of SI to save power

Government has been advised to issue a Statutory Instrument to directing all new housing estates to use solar water geysers to heat water in view of the growing demand for power in the country.

The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has further advised government to direct that existing households be given a grace period in which to migrate to hybrid solar geysers.

EIZ president Bernard Chiwala says in view of the current power crisis in Zambia, his Institution is also recommending that ZESCO conducts energy audits in the various industries with the view of encouraging efficiency in the usage of power.

Mr. Chiwala says the EIZ is also calling for the expediting of power projects currently under construction.

He states that in the medium term his Institution has also noted the need to evaluate previous hydrological studies to determine their adequacy to long lasting solution to the current power crisis.

Mr. Chiwala was speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today to avail EIZ findings on the current load shedding in the country.
