General Education Minister Michael Kaingu has tasked the newly appointed Examinations Council of Zambia Councillors to meet its benchmark and issue qualifications that are recognized both locally and internationally.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Lusaka today, Dr. Kaingu says the newly appointed council members will run the affairs of the council in the next three years.

Dr. Kaingu says he is hopeful that the new council will rise above the challenges currently facing the council and ensure continued progress from where the previous council left.

He has urged the council to be resolute in ensuring that accountability, integrity, transparency and professionalism continue to be the cornerstone of ECZ operations.

Dr Kaingu has also tasked the council to provide policy and strategic guidance to management and staff at the Examination Council of Zambia so that the institution continues to be innovative and improve on service delivery in the management and administration of examinations in Zambia.

And Examination Council of Zambia Chairperson Professor Samuel Banda has called on the newly appointed council members to take time to understand the genesis of the situation that the institution finds itself in and work with the entire ECZ community and other stakeholders.

Professor Banda has also called on the Ministry of General Education to look into the challenges facing the institution and improve the conditions of service.

The examination council of Zambia has operated without a council since 24th April following the expiry of the three year term of office for the previous council.
