Defending champions and leaders Zesco United failed to make significant headway in their title race on Saturday after they were held to a 2-2 away draw by Green Eagles at the Independence Stadium in Choma.

Twice Zesco took the lead, and twice Eagles hit back to delay further the four-time winners’ looming crowning as the 2015 FAZ Super League champions with four games left to play.

Midfielder Clatous Chama put Zesco ahead in the seventh minute to see the defending champions take a 1-0 lead for much of the first half.

Eagles stunned the visitors in stoppage time of the first half when Mathews Tembo leveled matters.

The equaliser didn’t go down well with Zesco coach George Lwandamina who disputed the goal and was sent-off shortly thereafter.

Midfielder Mwape Mwelwa calmed Zesco’s nerves when he put the Ndola side back into the lead in the 47th minute.

However, Eagles had the last say in stoppage time again when Mwelwa Phiri struck a free kick to see the two sides share the spoils.

Zesco move to 60 points, nine ahead of second-placed Power Dynamos who took overnight control of number two from Zanaco after a 2-0 home win over National Assembly.
