Republican President Edgar Lungu has been called upon to consider holding a Press Conference to enable him interact with the nation as he addresses very key issues affecting Zambia.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says while he appreciates the key role his Press Aide keep playing in expressing the thoughts and decisions of the President, it is very important that the man who Zambians elected themselves is seen to be interacting with the Zambian public.

Mr. Mwanza says he is happy that President Lungu has been meeting with various investors, foreign nationals and Chiefs at State House but he thinks the President has not lived his word of opening doors to his Office for his own citizens to meet and share possible solutions to challenges the economy and governance facing the nation.

He says the doors to State House have virtually remained closed to most of the citizens and what is more sad is that even his own representatives, the Ministers, few of them are approachable and are able to provide solutions to some issues affecting the majority of the voiceless citizens.

Mr. Mwanza says it is not enough to only interact with citizens when there are campaigns or political rallies in areas where the President is seeking citizens to elect his own people, the President must be seen to have a formal interaction where he can answer even questions from reporters, no matter how unpleasant the topic or question may be.

He has urged the Head of State to utilize a press conference as a political platform to condemn political violence and those who have been seen from his party to spearhead political violence or cause tribal divisions through their careless and unguided remarks.

Mr. Mwanza tells QFM News in an interview that since Parliament has also approved the creation of 5 more government ministries, the President must take the opportunity of the Press Conference to re-look at his entire Cabinet and do a bit of shake up to ensure Ministers stay alive to challenges.
