Faz shifts Barclays Cup semifinal date

Barclays-trophy-300The 2015 Barclays Cup semifinals have been brought forward by a week to October 11 in Lusaka.

This year’s Barclays Cup semifinals were earlier scheduled for October 17.

The Football Association of Zambia said the date has been moved because of the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) final round, first leg qualifier to be played on October 17.

Zambia will host Mozambique in that Chan qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

“The Barclays Cup semifinals will take place at Nkoloma Stadium on Sunday, October 11,” FAZ spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe said.

“The first game is at 12:45pm and the other at 3:15pm.”

Green Buffaloes, Zanaco, Nkwazi and defending champions Zesco United are the teams in the last four.

Nkwazi will play Zanaco in the first kickoff while Zesco will take on Buffaloes.

Meanwhile, Zesco, Green Buffaloes and Zanaco could be without key personnel for the semifinals who have been selected for Zambia’s friendly against Egypt away in Dubai on October 10.

Zesco will be without coach George Lwandamina who also doubles as Zambia’s trainer.

Goalkeeper Jacob Banda, defender Dauti Musekwa and striker Winston Kalengo are all likely to miss Zesco’s semifinal clash.

Zanaco will have goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata, midfielder Salulani Phiri and Charles Zulu away on Zambia duty.

Buffaloes too have three players picked for the Egypt friendly led by defender Buchizya Mfune, midfielder Jack Chirwa and striker Friday Samu who is also currently on a two-week injury layoff .
