YEN urges clean up in Zambia’s voter register

The Youth Empowerment Network (YEN) is urging all well meaning and patriotic Zambians to stand up and take a step in removing their deceased relatives and friends from the Register of Voters.

YEN is of the considered resolution that that Removal of the Deceased from the Register of Voters is everyone’s responsibility.

YEN National Coordinator Agness Kasongo says his organization has realized that there has been a low voter turnout in the past elections.

Ms. Kasongo states that from the assumptions of voter turn made by almost everyone, it is clear that this is done without taking into account that many registered voters may have died.

She has told Qfm News in a statement that to calculate percentages of the voter turnout on the assumption that the total numbers of all registered voters were alive is there inaccurate.

Ms. Kasongo says this is because in the actual sense not every registered voter is alive today.

She notes that YEN is of the considered view that this scenario has contributed to inflating the levels or numbers of voter apathy.

The YEN National Coordinator says her organization has also taken note that Voter Apathy has also become the order of the day in our elections.

She says her organization thinks that ignoring the exclusion of the deceased from the tabulation may be quite misleading.

Ms. Kasongo YEN therefore is appealing to all citizens especially leaders to stand up today and submit to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to have their deceased relatives and friends removed from the register of voters.
