ZPPA to introduce electronic procuring system

The Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) has disclosed that it will introduce an electronic government procuring system in order to deal with the challenges in public procurement.

ZPPA Director General Dr. Chibelushi Musongole has told a media briefing in Lusaka today that the authority will also introduced the code of conduct in public procurement as another step in addressing these challenges.

Dr. Musongole says once the Electronic Government Procuring (EGP) system is introduced, it is envisaged that efficiency, transparency and accountability in public procurement will be enhanced.

Dr. Musongole states that the authority also expects that there will be a reduction in the public procurement irregularities, and complaints of corruption in public procurement.

He says the EGP system will bring about efficient monitoring of contracts through the Contract management system which is one of the modules of the EGP.

And the ZPPA Director General has disclosed that the authority has received a total of eighteen appeals arising from various procurement in public procuring entities.

Dr. Musongole says out the eighteen complaints received, fifteen were resolved at the institutional level while three were heard by the authority and all of them were ruled in favor of the appealing institutions.
