ZMA holds back from aiding junior doctors

The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) says it cannot intervene in addressing the concerns raised by junior medical doctors through the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ).

Junior Doctors at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) have gone on a sit-in protest demanding that the Ministry of Health addresses the various issues affecting them at the institution.

ZMA President Aaron Mujajati has told Qfm News by telephone that his Association cannot come in now because it has taken note that the junior doctors are in active talks with the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Mujajati notes that for the fact that the issue is about a relationship between a sponsor, who is the government, and students, who are the Junior Doctors, ZMA will only make a comprehensive statement after the talks have come to a conclusion.

He says this is especially that the Junior Doctors are not actively engaging the ZMA in their talks with the government.

Dr. Mujajati states that should the junior Doctors however feel that their issues are not moving in the manner they want, his Association may then come in.
