The Grand Coalition on the Campaign for the People Driven Constitution has dismissed assertions that it intends to go to Court to block the adoption of new constitution through Parliament.

Grand Coalition Spokesperson MacDonald Chipenzi says the Coalition has in fact not hinted any of its strategies or maneuvers to anyone to the effect that it will seek litigation against the government’s mode of adopting the country’s new constitution.

Mr. Chipenzi says people in the country should therefore not get troubled by reports suggesting the contrary as the Grand Coalition will inform them if it resolves to go the litigation way.

He has told Qfm News that there is nothing the Grand Coalition is working on that is secrete, noting that all options, including going to Court, are open to discussion and deliberation.

Mr. Chipenzi states that what the Grand Coalition is thus currently doing is intensely exploring all options of how best it can make government deliver a people driven Constitution.

He says the Grand Coalition has however, noted the counsel given by the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) on the dangers that may arise if the adoption of the country’s new constitution through Parliament was to be blocked through a Court action.

Mr. Chipenzi states that the Coalition however believes that whether the country’s new constitution was to be adopted through Parliament or not, there is no guarantee that President Edgar Lungu will assent to it into law.

He says the Coalition thinks it’s possible that President Lungu might delay assenting to the new constitution into law until after the 2016 general elections.

Mr Chipenzi says this is given the indication the Head of State has made that he wishes the 2016 general election will be the last elections the Head of State sets the date for.
