BoZ to circulate new bank notes

The Bank of Zambia has disclosed that it will in the last quarter of this year release into circulation bank notes with special features that will directly address the needs of the visually impaired.

Head of Communication and Public Relations Kanguya Mayondi says the introduction of thKWACHASese bank notes is a culmination of extensive consultation and engagement with associations representing the interest of the visually impaired, besides the bank’s own research.

Mr. Mayondi states that the new bank notes that are expected to promote barrier-free access to the Zambian Kwacha and will have special marks in form of slanting lines on the front of each denomination.

He notes that these special marks will range from two slanting lines on the lowest banknote in the family of the Zambian Kwacha, the K2, to seven slanting lines on the highest denomination, the K100.

Mr. Mayondi was speaking this morning in Lusaka when he opened a workshop on the new tactile features on the Zambian bank notes for the visually impaired.
