ZESCO seeks dialogue with political parties, CSOs

ZESCO Limited has encouraged political parties and the Civil Society Organizations to engage the power utility company and understand what is really causing load shedding in the country.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata has explained to QFM News in an interview that this is before the hot season and the water levels at Kariba are very low saying generation capacity is affected.

Mr. Kapata says what the political parties and other concerned stakeholders should do is to engage ZESCO so that they debate from an informed point of view.

He says the company is impressed with the response they have received from the general public during the just ended Agriculture and Commercial Show in Lusaka saying a lot of people visited their stand and have been told the causes of load shedding.

And Mr. Kapata says the company cannot avoid exporting power more especially at night saying if not exported it will be wasted.

He has furthermore explained that few people use electricity at night that is why the company exports so that they too can earn something from that process.

Mr. Kapata says the company is loosing colossal sums of money as a result of the continued load shedding in the country and the people should bear with them that the challenge is beyond their means.

And the ZESCO Spokesperson has explained why certain places are not experiencing load shedding as compared to others.

He says there are certain places that share the same lines with critical areas like hospitals which are not part of the load shedding saying that is why they are exempted from load shedding.
