Lungu tips mining companies

LUNGU SmilesRepublican President Edgar Lungu has encouraged mining companies to use alternative sources of power for their operations in view of the ongoing countrywide load shedding.

President Lungu was responding to a question on some mining companies that are suspending operations on account of low power,shortly before departure for Ndola at City airport this morning.

And President is on the Copperbelt to commission the US$400 million Dangote Cement plant in Ndola later this afternoon.

The cement plant, which has an installed capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes of cement per annum, has been equipped with a 30 Mega Watt power plant.

The cement plant commenced production in May this year.

The President is accompanied by vice president Inonge Wina, Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani and Patriotic Front officials.

And the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has certified Dangote cement compliant with the specified Zambia standards following the inspection and audit of the production process at the cement plant.

ZABS Director Manuel Mutale in a statement issued to QFM News says his organisation is pleased that Dangote like all other cement manufacturers in Zambia has brought on the market a good quality product that is compliant with the Zambian standards.

Mr Mutale says ZABS will continue to monitor the Dangote cement product and all other cement products to ensure continued adherence to Zambian standards.

He has since assured the public that products inspected and certified by the institution are safe for use.

The applicable standard for cement products is ZS EN 197-1 which defines and gives specifications of 27 distinct common cement products and their constituents. The standard also states the conformity criteria and the related rules. The ZS EN –1 standard was adopted from the European standard EN 197-1. Compliance to this standard means compliance with the European market and other countries that have adopted the EN standard.
