President Edgar Lungu has charged that whilst many of the African countries have achieved political independence, Zambia and Malawi are yet to fully realize their economic emancipation.

President Lungu says the two countries’ ability to effectively attain long-term economic growth depends on how well the countries can effectively innovate and transform their economies and open up new modern and higher technology opportunities in the production and export sectors.

President Lungu notes that Africa’s future lies in diversifying its production and export base so that they become competitive on the international market noting that the economic transformation and diversification will, therefore, contribute to the shared prosperity and improve the standard of living of our people.

He says the two countries need to fully harness and exploit their immense natural resources for the improvement of the livelihood of the two peoples adding that the two countries independence continue to inspire them to work even harder in their quest to eradicate hunger, poverty, joblessness and disease.

President Lungu says Zambia and Malawi, having attained their golden jubilee last year, can now confidently say that both countries have remained united, strong and resolute in their determination to continue to afford nationals opportunities to enjoy freedom, democracy, justice, equality and personal liberties.

He says it is his fervent hope that the two sisterly countries will continue to cooperate and collaborate at bilateral, regional and continental levels across many areas.

President Lungu states that as Malawi celebrates five decades of freedom, it is befitting that the people of Malawi should reflect on the great strides the country has made since the 1964 when it took charge of its own destiny.

He has further thanked President Mutharika, for the invitation to officiate at the country’s independence anniversary.

This is contained in a speech President Lungu delivered today during Malawi’s 51st Independence Celebration availed to Qfm News by his Special Assistant for Press and Public relations Amos Chanda.
