ACC defends itself over Tedworth properties

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has dismissed stories and innuendos circulating in some sections of the media with respect the management of Tedworth properties which were seized by the then Task Force on Corruption.

From the media reports it has been alleged that the rentals from the seized Tedworth properties have been looted by known individuals, and that the Commission has not instituted investigations into the matter.

It is further alleged that the Commission is shielding corrupt elements regarding the US$ 1.3 million allegedly looted in rentals from the seized properties by the Task Force on Corruption.
It has become necessary to set the record straight on the said properties.

But ACC Acting Public Relations Manager Dorothy Mwanza has told Qfm News in a statement that contrary such allegations the commission is currently managing the said properties through a Property Manager and rental collections are part of this process which is under supervision.

Ms. Mwanza says currently all rentals have been received and accounted for in the books of Tedworth Properties Limited.

She has disclosed that the rentals are received in Kwacha and US Dollars from the tenants and that one of the tenants remits their rentals through Citi Bank of New York, where their Head Office is domiciled and are received in the Account of Tedworth Properties Limited.

Ms. Mwanza states that this is a facilitation and accounting arrangement in the clearance of the foreign currency.

ACC Acting Public Relations Manager adds that the issue of Tedworth Properties is still a matter before Supreme Court on appeal and has not yet been determined; therefore the Commission is constrained to comment on the same.

She however notes that if anybody has information contrary to the said position on rentals they are encouraged to report to other Law Enforcement Agencies so that the matter can be investigated.
