China Geo Engineering has been awarded a contract to rehabilitate lots 1 and 3 of the Chingola Solwezi road at a cost of K1.067 Billion.
Rehabilitation works for lot 1of the road to be executed within a period of 24 months from the date of commencement has a contractual value of K481, 085, 786.95 Million, while lot 3 which will also be executed within a period of 24 months has a contractual value of K586, 506,638.14 Million.
Speaking in Lusaka today during the signing ceremony of the two contracts, Road Development Agency (RDA) Director and Chief Executive Officer Kanyuka Mumba says the signing of the two contracts which comes four days after the RDA signed the contract for the rehabilitation of lot 2 covering of 40 kilometers of the Chingola Solwezi Road means that the agency has now awarded all contracts for the rehabilitation of the entire road which covers 168 kilometers.
He says the scope of work for lot 1 which is a 60 kilometers stretch and lot 3 which is 68 kilometers, will include among other things ripping of the existing pavement, construction of pavement layers and sealing with 50mm asphalt concrete and provision of road markings and signage.
Mr. Mumba has since warned China Geo Engineering that the agency will not accept anything short of high quality works.
And China Geo Engineering Managing Director Li Jinping has pledged to deliver the project within the specified timeframe and with expected quality.
Meanwhile the President’s Special Assistant for Project Implementation and Monitoring Lucky Mulusa who was present during the signing ceremony of the two contracts has also promised to personally ensure that the road is rehabilitated to the intended quality.
Mr. Mulusa has told journalists shortly after the signing ceremony that he be making random visits on the site until the rehabilitation works are completed.
