AS the world waits on tenterhooks for the arrival of Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s second baby, bookies have slashed odds that he or she will be born next week.

Despite Kate’s due date allegedly being today, bookmakers are now favouring Monday onwards – with many reckoning the Duchess will give birth on her and William’s fourth wedding anniversary on the April 29.

Speculation was fuelled further today after Prince William was seen looking calm and collected during an official engagement at the Cenotaph, leaving punters convinced that the birth is more than just a few hours away.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “As every day passes we’re forced to slash the odds, and it would be fitting if the new prince or princess was born on Kate and William’s anniversary.”

It was recently revealed that Prince William is officially on leave in preparation for the upcoming birth.

The young royal is taking time out from his job as a trainee air ambulance pilot, which he started at the end of March.

Sky Reporter Kay Burley confirmed he has started paternity leave, tweeting: “Latest on William: He’s now on leave… #KateWaitMark2.”

In the latest bookies’ odds released, it’s thought the Duchess of Cambridge will give birth to a baby girl.

According to an old wives’ tale, if a pregnant woman has cravings for chocolate and biscuits, it is a sure sign that she is carrying a daughter.

Kate reportedly joked that she thought she was expecting a little girl, after revealing she had been craving lots of sweet treats.

But what would they call her? Alice is said to be current favourite, while Elizabeth, Charlotte and Victoria are also high up on the list.

Michael, Thomas and Alfred are also contenders if the tot is a boy.

London has already started the royal baby preparation. Outside of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, parking restrictions officially went up last week.

And while Kate has completed her final royal engagements for now, she was recently spotted shopping for last-minute nursery buys in her local Zara, according to reports.

So what else do we know about the second royal pregnancy so far?

The birth team will be headed by consultant obstetrician Guy Thorpe-Beeston, who also assisted at Prince George‘s arrival in July 2013.

William will take two weeks’ paternity leave and will join his family at Kensington Palace immediately after the birth.

It is also believed that Kate will take a longer maternity leave than last time.

The Duchess has also reportedly moved her doting parents into her and Prince William’s Norfolk home.

Carole and Michael Middleton are said to have relocated to Amner Hall in order to ensure their daughter’s home is a calm sanctuary in preparation for Prince George’s brother’s or sister’s arrival.

“When George arrived, Kate and William moved into Kate’s parents’ house. This time the Middletons are moving to Amner with William and Kate. There is plenty of space and Kate really wants her mother around,” a family friend told OK! magazine.

George’s maternal grandparents are said to be considering a permanent move to Norfolk once the second royal baby is here.
