Republican President Edgar Lungu says he believes that the liberating truth that keeps Zambia as a peaceful and united nation is the passionate profession of the Christian faith.

President Lungu says there is need not for any moment take for granted what has kept together as one country, united in diversity which is a Christian faith and belief in God almighty!

Speaking during the celebration of Seventh Day Adventist one million baptized membership at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka today, President Lungu says he is aware that the Seventh-day Adventist church has for a long time partnered with government in national development, particularly in the provision of education, health and instilling good morals to members of our society.

President Lungu says the SDA Church has built schools like Chimpempe in Luapula province, Mupapa on the Copperbelt, Emmanuel secondary school in central province, Rusangu school and Rusangu University in Southern province, to name only a few.

President Lungu has emphasized that the government’s prime objective is to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

He says for government to achieve these goals, the role of the private sector in supplementing government efforts can not be over emphasized.

He notes that education is the only way the people will escape poverty, mitigate effects of disease and eradicate ignorance.

President Lungu says the establishment and continued development of these institutions is a step in the right direction.

The Head of State says he is also aware of the church’s hospitals which include Mwami in Chipata, Yuka in Kalabo, the eye hospital in Lusaka saying they too, are aiding government efforts in providing health services to the citizens.

He says government appreciates such noble deeds and he has since commended the SDA Church and other churches that are doing similar exploits.
