Ex PF Chawama MP dies

Former Chawama Patriotic Front Member of Parliament and Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Secretary General Reverend Violet Sampa Bret has died.

Reverend Sampa Bret died in Germany.

CCZ Secretary General Suzanne Matale in statement says the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) acknowledges the enormous contribution that Rev Sampa Bret made to the life and work of CCZ during the period she served as General Secretary.

Reverend Matale says Rev Bret will be remembered as a committed advocate of branding and increasing the visibility of CCZ during her tenure of office.

She adds that in her work she made the presence of the church through CCZ easily visible and unmistakably identified in order for those in need to know where to find the church.

Reverend Matale says the church will remember her as a great icon who through her works championed gender equality and women participation at various levels of decision making positions.

She says Rev Bret will be remembered as having served as the first ordained female Minister in the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) who later served as General Secretary of the Council of Churches in Zambia and the first female to be part of the Oasis Forum.

Reverend Matale has described Rev Bret as a great hardworking female church leader with resilience and patience whose leadership position the nation supported and this encouraged her to perform her duties diligently and effectively.

She has on behalf of the CCZ Board and the entire church fraternity, conveyed condolences to the family of Rev Sampa Bret.
