Milupi cautions govt on maize exports

Government has been cautioned to be careful of how much of the old stock of maize it should export given the droughts the country has had this year.

The opposition Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) has advised the Ministry of Agriculture to weigh how much of last year’s old stock is still available compared to what the country consumes annually.

ADD president Charles Milupi has told Qfm News that government should also keep in mind how much is anticipated to be harvested this year notwithstanding the droughts that have been experienced in the country.

Mr. Milupi states that it is clear there will be a deficit in the country’s harvest because the rains came very late.

He says this is besides the prolonged dry spell from February to March this year.

Mr. Milupi has also stressed the need for the PF government to develop a clear policy direction for the Agriculture sector.

He thinks that there has not been clear policy direction in the country under the PF government.
