ZCTU hails directive to revise retirement law

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has hailed President Edgar Lungu’s directive to the Ministry of Justice to immediately revise the law on retirement age to provide for three options an employee can exercise to retire.

The three options are Early Retirement at 55 years, Normal Retirement at 60 years and Late Retirement at 65 years.

ZCTU president Nkole Chishimba says the move is a step in the right direction because it provides for options which are yet to be digested by various stakeholders.ZCTU chishimba-nkole

Mr. Chishimba points out that ZCTU is already doing a write up to raise its concerns with the ministry of Justice with regards the retirement age.

He says the labour movement will ensure that the final document on the retirement age is a win-win situation so that workers are happy and government achieves what it wants.

Mr. Chishimba says ZCTU will soon submit its proposal on what they feel should be included in the Statutory Instrument as directed by President Lungu.
