EITI concerned about Lungu’s directive for mine tax change

Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) has expressed concern over President Edgar Lungu’s directive for changes to be effected to the 2015 minining tax regime.

EITI Country Coordinator Mwiya Mwandawande says President Lungu’s directive is worrying because the mining tax regime was enacted by Parliament.

Mr. Mwandawande notes that the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and the ministries of Finance and Mines did their research for them to come up with the mineral royalty based tax regime.

He adds that it is also worrying to note how the mining tax regime is going to be changed when it was already passed Parliament.

Mr. Mwandawande has since called for the need for all stakeholders to discuss the whole process of the mining tax regime.
