ZESCO records a customer base of over 35,000

ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mundende has disclosed that the power utility company has so far recorded a customer base of over 35, 000 through the Increased Access to Electricity Project.

Mr. Mundende has also disclosed that the company has achieved a 100 percent metering of all domestic customers saying all domestic customers are now on pre-paid.

Speaking when he had a meeting with ZESCO employees, Mr. Mundende the performance of the power delivery infrastructure continues to be a source of concern particularly for the transmission and distribution system where the company faced with capacity constraints.

Mr. Mundende states that there are also delays in resolution of faults and load shedding arising out of the extremely narrow gap between power supply and demand.

He says all transmission projects are late and the company therefore requires to double up the efforts in order to maximize the delays in completion of the transmission projects.

He adds that workers at ZESCO also have to work extra hard to clear the backlog in connecting new customers, who sometimes have to wait for months before supply can be given.

Mr. Mundende says such issues are making the customers and shareholders alike to have a negative perception on the performance of the company.

The ZESCO MD has also disclosed that works on the Kasama, Pensulo line are nearly complete and the contractor on the Lusaka West, Mumbwa and Ithezhi Tezhi line has made steady progress and the connection to Ndola Energy with 50 Megawatts is also completed.

Me. Mundende has since assured the appointing authority and ZESCO workers that he will do his level best to execute his duties to the satisfaction of the company and its stakeholders.

  1. Mrs DOROTHY BOON.

I m so greaful to the President that ZESCO has a newly appointed MD, hope he can sort out my problem. I have a 30ton/day Maize Meal production being installed in Chipata.l applied for power line installation to ZESCO sometime in July, 2014, to no avail. I was inclined to ask them in December 2014, to see if l could hire any Contractor of my choice, so that ZESCO could simply Certify. They gave me verbal consent to go ahead as they were all going on Xmas holidays. I got contractors as soon as the verbal consent was authorised by Chipata Centre Manager. However, sometime last week, ZESCO went on site and told contractors to stop installation and stated that l didn’t follow their protocol, as though it was a fault of my own that I was not given full details of the company’s routine procedure.
Chinese engineer is waiting for electric connection to test the plant, and ZESCO is causing further delays by stopping the Contractors, who simply needed job specification requirements document as a guide, which has not been issued to date to the contractors.
ZESCO had a duty to give me all relevant information including their Specification power line installation requirements for Contractors at time when permission was granted to me.

I look forward to hearing from Managing Director- Mr Mundende.
    Regards.
