ZAWA arrests 3 for being in possession of raw ivory

The Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) has arrested three (3) people in Kafue town for being in possession of raw ivory.

ZAWA assistant public relations officer carol Mulenga has told Qfm News in a statement that the three are Benny Mujika, 33 of Matiangwe Village Chirundu, Christopher Simoonga 41, of Hante Village Siavonga and Wilson Kapupula 38, of Hante village Siavonga and have been on ZAWAs list of wanted poachers.

Ms. Mulenga indicates that the three men were arrested on February 26, 2015, while transporting the pieces of ivory weighing 42kgs in a Toyota Premio registration number ABM 3115.

She says ZAWA is concerned on the increase in number of persons being arrested for being in possession of prescribed trophies.

Ms Mulenga has since warned that ZAWA officers are on high alert and the public and perpetrators of wildlife crimes to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
