JCTR calls for transparency from mining companies

Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has called for transparency from mining companies following the revision of Value Added Tax (VAT) rule no. 18.

JCTR Director Father Leonard Chiti says the move by government through the Zambia Revenue Authority to revise provisions of VAT rule 18 is a step in the right direction.

Father Chiti says JCTR has always endeavored to see to it that there is fairness, equity and transparency with transactions related to export of minerals and other commodities.

He states that with the VAT rule in effect, mining houses will not be subjected to unnecessary administrative procedures so that at the end of the day both the mining houses and the country benefit.

Father Chiti further states that this will also help Zambians know what the mining houses are exporting and where they are exporting to which is good for both the mining houses and the country.
