Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has welcomed the conviction and sentencing to 12 months imprisonment of former Mines Minister Maxwell Mwale for abuse of authority of office.
TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu has told Qfm news in an interview that the imprisonment of Mr. Mwale sends a message to those holding public office not to take advantage of their positions to abuse their authority of office.
Mr. Lungu states that this is also serves as a deterrent to would be offenders’ to respect the law and realize that no one is above the law.
He has also appealed to Mr. Mwale to understand the circumstances he has found himself in.
Mr Lungu says TIZ will continue to strongly condemn the abuse of authority of office as this robs the country of resources that can be channel be channeled to other needy sectors.
