President Edgar Lungu and his visiting Tanzanian counterpart Jakaya Kikwete have agreed on the need to safeguard the joint venture Tazania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA).

The two made the commitment when they held bilateral talks at State House this afternoon.

President Lungu said government intends to explore means of revamping TAZARA.

President Lungu says TAZARA is a mammoth investment which the two partner countries should endeavor to protect.

he says TAZARA remains a symbol of good cooperation between Zambia and Tanzania and that the leaders of the two nations should build on what their predecessors left.

The Head of State says bilateral talks with the Tanzanian government cannot be complete without talking about how best the two countries can protect the railway infrastructure.

And President Lungu says the establishment of a one stop border post at Nakonde/Tunduma border to harmonize the operations at the border entry should be supported by the two countries.

And Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete says he supports calls by President Lungu to revamp TAZARA saying it is an asset that the two countries should look after well.

Mr. Kikwete says the joint project of Zambia and Tanzania to move oil from the port of Dar Er Salaam to Indeni Refinery in Ndola is another venture that shows that the two countries are in good terms with each other.

The Tanzanian President has assured Zambians that his country will do anything in its power to see to it that the joint projects are sustained and that the mutual cooperation between the two countries is enhanced.
