ZYAFAC implores Lungu to fight corruption without fear

President Lungu

The Zambia Youths Association in the Fight Against Corruption (ZYAFAC) has implored President Edgar Lungu to deal with corruption without fear or favor.

ZYAFAC Executive Director Rickson Kanema says Mr Lungu should emulate the zeal late President Michael Sata had by relentlessly dealing with the perpetration of corruption during his tenure.

Mr Kanema says President Lungu should start by first ensuring that the Office of the Auditor General is given powers to prosecute perpetrators of misappropriation of public funds.

He states that this is because in its current form, the Office of the Auditor General is a weak and toothless bull dog.

Mr Kanema says ZYAFAC is of the view that once the Office of the Auditor General is given powers to prosecute, the country is most likely to see reduced cases of misappropriation of funds owing to the fact that all the people cited in the audit reports will be made to face the law.

Mr. Kanema says this will in turn serve as a deterrent to would be offenders.

He states that this is one way his organization believes the issue of corruption and misappropriation of public funds can be addressed in the country.
