Zambia’s capability to insulate itself from external shocks lies in maximising local revenue generation – Chikwanda

Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda says Zambia’s capability to insulate itself from external shocks still lies in maximising revenue generation from its local resources.

Mr. Chikwanda says Zambia is endowed with sufficient resources to grow the economy without necessarily depending on donor funding.

Mr. Chikwanda states this means that all citizens need to take part in the development process of the country as opposed to outsourcing.

Qfm’s Lazarous Sichula reports that the Finance Minister was speaking this afternoon when he commissioned four by two semi-detached houses for Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) staff at Kazungula border that have been built at a cost of k2,577,882.08.

And Mr. Chikwanda has made an assurance that government will clear the balance which is required to fund the remaining number of houses to accommodate all ZRA staff at Kazungula border.

Speaking earlier, ZRA Commissioner General Berlin Msiska observed that the Kazungula housing project is in line with the Authority’s objective of improving operational efficiency and productivity of the workforce through the provision of accommodation.

Mr. Msiska says it is thus expected that with such kind of motivation, the Authority’s workforce will do their best to collect as much revenue as possible.

He says in turn this will enable the ZRA meet its strategic objective of optimizing revenue collection and thereby contribute to the development of the country.
