President Lungu confers with Chiefs

Republican President Edgar Lungu has called on chiefs to strengthen their unifying role in the country.

President Lungu said chiefs play a critical role in bringing unity and fostering peace in the nation.

The Head of State said this in Lusaka today when he met 25 Chiefs from three Provinces at State House.

President Lungu said he regards every tribe as equal and to him there is no such thing as a small or big tribe
He said he was not impressed with the voting pattern in the just ended presidential election as it reflected what is actually happening on the ground.

President Lungu said he is concerned with the tribal divisions that have rocked the country’s political arena.

Meanwhile President Edgar Lungu will address the African Union Assembly on 30th January, 2015 in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

According to a statement issued by the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa, President Lungu and First Lady Esther Lungu are expected to attend the 24th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly.

President Lungu is on the sidelines of the summit expected to hold a number bilateral meeting.

First Lady Esther Lungu is also expected to attend meetings of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA).

Meanwhile Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday ahead of the arrival of President Lungu.

Mr Kalaba was accompanied by Health Minister Joseph Kasonde and his Tourism and Arts counterpart Jean Kapata who is standing in for the Minister of Gender and Child Development.

The theme of the summit is Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2060.
