Lungu still leading

Latest results from 141 constituencies released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) last night still have Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu in the lead with 780, 691 votes representing 48.43% closely followed by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema with 752, 850 votes representing 46.70% .

ECZ Chairperson Justice Irene Mambilima told a media briefing last night that MMD’s Nevers Mumba has 13, 971 votes representing 0.87%, FDD’s Edith Nawakwi has 13, 597 votes representing 0.84%, UNIP’s Tilyenji Kaunda polled 9, 210 votes representing 0.57%, Fourth Revolution’s Eric Chanda has 7, 540 representing 0.47%, with NAREP’s Elias Chipimo Junior with 5, 762 votes representing 0.36%.

Heritage party’s Godfrey Miyanda has 5, 522 representing 0.34%, CDP’s Daniel Pule has 3, 079 representing 0.19%, FDA’s Ludwig Sondashi has 1, 937 representing 0.12% while Green party’s Peter Sinkamba has 1, 358 representing 0.08%.

Justice Mambilima says the remaining nine constituencies to be announced probably by today are Kanchibiya, Mfuwe, Mafinga, Chama South and Chama North which are in Muchinga Province, Lukulu, Luena and Sikongo West which are in Western Province and Mufumbwe North Western.

She adds that the total registered voters in the 141 constituencies are 4, 967, 393and total votes cast representing a 32.45 percent turnout.

Mr. Lungu is still ahead of the UPND Leader with 27, 841 votes from the 141 constituencies as compared to the 26, 904 difference recorded yesterday from 121 constituencies.
