ECZ refutes reports that it was served with injunction yesterday

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has refuted media reports suggesting that the commission was served with an injunction restraining the Returning Officer Lombe Chibesakunda from receiving nomination papers from MMD President Nevers Mumba.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Chris Akufuna has told journalists in Lusaka that such reports are misleading and that they are not true.

Mr. Akufuna says the returning officer Lombe Chibesakunda yesterday accepted nomination papers from the MMD President because there was no court order restraining her from doing so.

CosmoMeanwhile National Revolution Party (NRP) President Cosmo Mumba has withdrawn his candidature for the 20th January presidential and has since endorsed PF Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu.

Dr. Mumba says yesterday he visited late Republican President Michael Sata’s grave and his spirit told him to withdraw his candidature and back Mr. Lungu.

He says he has the required money and 200 members for him to file in his nomination but will not go ahead to file in his nominations.
