Farmers in Mpongwe District in Chieftainess Malembeka’s area in Mpongwe District have bemoaned low rain yield in the area saying it will greatly affect the harvest.

Some of the farmers talked to by QFM News crew in Mpongwe District have predicted that there will be hunger in the area next year due to low rain yields.

Nason Saini, a commercial farmer, says he is worried that next year the harvest will be affected owing to the fact that the rains have delayed this farming season.

Another farmer, Mapensho Matafwali says government should start working out modalities on feeding the people in the area considering that they will not get anything from their fields.

Janet Nkunda, a peasant farmer is of the view that even if most of them have received the farming inputs for this farming season, it will not yield any positive results because the area is currently receiving low rain yields.

The farmers have also complained of delayed payments from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) saying it has been too difficult for them to effectively plan for this farming season.

They have stated that the agency should next year ensure that they pay farmers right on time for them to effectively plan for the coming farming season.
