JCTR unhappy with Zambia’s failure to meet most MDGs

The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) says it is unfortunate that Zambia has failed to meet most the Millennium Development Goals.

JCTR Director Fr. Leonard Chiti says lack of political will has made it impossible for the country to meet the most pronounced goals with only a few weeks remaining before 2015.

Fr. Chiti notes that though the country has made strides in infrastructure development such as schools, roads and health facilities, poverty still remains high in the country which has made it hard for the nation to meet MDG no.1 which talks about eradicating extreme Poverty and Hunger by 2015.

He adds that it is saddening that even attainable goals like providing universal primary education have not been met.

He says this calls for political will from the next government for the country to move forward.

Fr. Chiti notes that the MDGs were set to help countries move forward and thus Zambia should take the Post 2015 development goals seriously.

He has further urged the next government to come up with deliberate measures that will help attain the post 2015 development goals.
