Movement for Multiparty and Democracy (MMD) President Nevers Mumba has with immediate effect fired MMD National secretary Muhabi Lungu and his deputy Chembe Nyangu for insubordination and gross indiscipline.

Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka today, Dr. Mumba says Chembe Member of Parliament Mwansa Mbulakulima will act as National Secretary, while Mrs Winnie Zaloumis will act as deputy national secretary.

Dr. Mumba has further revoked all the 10 presidential nominations on the MMD National Executive Committee promising to release a new list of NEC members soon.

Dr Mumba says Mr.Lungu has already been saved with the letter of expulsion.

He says his decision should not be viewed as a sign of vindictiveness, but that it would be difficult for him to work with Mr Lungu following the recent developments in the party.

Dr Mumba has since thanked both Mr Lungu and Mr Nyangu for their time and contributions to the party.
And Dr. Mumba has called for reconciliation in the former ruling.

He says a sign of reconciliation, he visited former President Rupiah Banda this morning to assure him that regardless of what happened, he still remains his brother.

Dr Mumba says it is his prayer that Mr. Banda will support him and join him in the campaigns.

Dr. Mumba has further appealed to all those who have been on the peripheral of the party to go back and work together stating that vengeance is for the Lord.

He states the events that happened in the last 30 days are regrettable and has commended the judiciary for the job well done.

The Supreme Court Yesterday declared Dr Mumba as MMD’s official candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.
