ECZ warns aspiring presidential candidates

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has warned political parties, aspiring presidential candidates filing nominations and their supporters that it is an offenAkafuna-ECZce for a registered voter to possess a voter’s card and National Registration Card belonging to another person.

This warning follows the arrest of about six (6) supporters of Green Party aspiring candidate, Peter Sinkamba, who presented voters cards and NRCs belonging to other people during the filing of nominations on Wednesday, 17 December 2014.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna says Section 21(o) of the Electoral Code of Conduct, states that a person shall not be in possession of a voter’s card or national registration card belonging to another person during the campaign period.

Mr Akufuna says the Commission therefore appeals to all political parties and their aspiring candidates to ensure that their supporters should carry with them only their voter’s card and National Registration Card when coming to file their nomination papers.

He warns that any person who will be found with voter’s cards and National Registration cards belonging to other people will be prosecuted.
