ZACA says fuel price reduction is a mockery

The Zambia Consumers Association (ZACA) says the announced reduction of between 25 anFuel Pump 2d 28 ngwee in fuel prices is a mockery to the people of Zambia.

ZACA Executive Secretary Samuel Simutunda has told Q fm in an interview that the reduction is insignificant and will not have any impact.

Mr. Simutunda notes that economically, the reduction does not make sense to the consumers because it is as good as nothing.

He says while the reduction of fuel prices is long overdue, the reduction effected by the Energy Regulation Board is insignificant.

Mr. Simutunda states that a K1.00 reduction would have made sense.

He has since called on the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to revisit the reduction and push it to not less than K1.00
He notes that with the effected reduction, there is no way bus operators will reduce their fares, stating that Zambians deserve a fair reduction so that they feel the impact.

Mr. Simutunda has further challenged ERB to give an elaborate explanation on how they arrived at the 25 ngwee reduction on petrol and 28 ngwee for diesel.
