Presidential hopefuls advised to make realistic promises

Political leaders vying for the presidency in the forthcoming presidential election have been advised to make realistic promises.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has reminded presidential hopefuls that Zambians are already frustrated with the unfulfilled promises which the ruling PF made in the run up to the 2011 general elections.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says this is why his organization is calling upon politicians vying for the country’s top job to make promises that can be easily achieved and understood by the people of Zambia that they can really be achieved.

Mr. Mwanza has told Qfm News by telephone that such promises should be accompanied by modalities and roadmaps on how they are going to be attained.

He says the people of Zambia on the other hand should have an open mind when such campaign promises are made to them.

Mr. Mwanza states the Zambian people should not allow any politicians to ever again cheat them with unattainable promises.

He has also reiterated the need for the ruling PF to call for a ceasefire of the wrangles that have emerged between two rival camps ahead of 2015 general elections.

The YALI governance advisor has suggested the ruling party should come up with a conflict resolution mechanism that will ensure that all such squabbles are resolved.

He says his organization fears that without this mechanism Democracy in political parties such as the ruling PF and the MMD is under threat.
