Zambia gets sweet revenge against Cape Verde

Zambia beat Cape Verde 1-0 on Wednesday to settle scores against their Group F nemesis to wrap up their 2015 AFCON qualifying race.

The home win at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola was sweet revenge for Zambia coach Honour Janza whose side only Group F loss came at the hands of Cape Verde.

Cape Verde beat Zambia 2-1 in the first leg meeting on September 10 away Reynold-Kampamba-~19in Praia as the Blue Sharks consolidated their supremacy in Group F.

Zambia enjoyed the lion’s share of chances especially in the first half but were again poor in front of goal.

Striker Emmanuel Mayuka had Zambia’s first shot on goal in the 5th minute but Cape Verde goalkeeper Kevin Sousa saved the Southampton players effort with ease.

Kalaba then teased the Blue Sharks goalkeeper Kevin Sousa in the 12th minute but his shot was rising.

Zambia’s winning goal came in the 78th minute through striker Reynold Kampamba who sent Sousa the other way to after making a darting run into the box.

The defeat did little to affect Cape Verde status at the top of Group F where they finished the qualifiers on 12 points, one more than Zambia.

both sides have qualified to the 2015 Africa Cup to be held in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.
